According to the
details on the box, this early Opel was intended
as a 'doctor's car' and it is not hard to imagine
a country physician driving this car on the way
to visit a patient.
During our time
period this model was only issued in white with a
tan roof. The plastic components were either
bright red or maroon. The radiator grille was
usually bright red although the grill on the
first issue was maroon. This model is fairly
common although those with a tan textured roof,
rather than the more common smooth version, are
in the extremely rare category. If you spot one
of these be sure to check its authenticity. The
tan roof was also fitted to the connoisseur
collection models but can be identified by the
'Limited Edition' cast to the underside of the
roof.
The roof was
originally attached using body pins but was later
attached to the seats. The model shown in the
picture is issue 3 which has the body pins. I
also have the later issue 7 which has the roof
attached to the seats
The main issues
can be found at prices between £10 and £20
although the first issue is a little more
expensive. Expect to pay well over £250 for the
textured roof variations.
