From
the start of the production of Yesteryears
plating has been used to colour metal parts, the
most common plating materials being brass or
copper. Rarely,
as a production error, the plating was omitted.
Wheels, in particular experienced this lack of
plating.
The variation in
plating can lead to some of the harder to find
(thus more expensive) variations. For example,
the Y2-3 Vauxhall usually had a brass plated
petrol tank. However, rare examples have the tank
plated in copper.
