The Daimler Motor Syndicate
was formed in 1893 to build the famous German car
of the same name in Britain, under licence. The
British and German sides of the partnership went
their separate ways in 1898. From 1904 the
British company, keeping the name Daimler,
concentrated on large and powerful four cylinder
cars and was soon making some of the best British
cars.
The Yesteryear
model is an extremely good representation of the
A12 Daimler. The fine spoked wheels are perfect
for this model. The body of the model was always
produced in yellow but the shade of yellow does
vary considerably. There are many minor
variations to collect, most relate to different
baseplate castings. However there are several
major variations to look out for.
The first issue
model sported black seats. The spare wheel was
mounted in a recess on the running board and the
steering wheel was plastic with 5 spokes. This
model is illustrated above and can be found for
between £30 and £40. To aid production the
running board recess was opened up on later
models. The seats were soon changed to dark red
and the steering wheel was replaced by a 4 spoke
version, common to other models. The more common
issue, also illustrated above, can be found for
around £15.
